Bottles 52.0 brings Windows Vista support, Sandbox feature, enhanced stability, and more
Bottles 52.0 “I'm back” continues to let Linux users run Windows software and games, building on its core function with general stability improvements and a smoother user experience. This release introduces multiple fixes and user interface enhancements across the board.
The onboard dialog has migrated to AdwDialog, resulting in improved integration with libadwaita. The dialog now offers clear, real-time feedback on ongoing operations. Additionally, users gain new control over workflows by being able to cancel both bottle creation and component downloads mid-process.
With this update, the sandbox feature is now enabled by default, providing an additional layer of security. Platform compatibility is also broader, as support for both Windows Vista and the st terminal has been added.
On the technical side, copy performance has been enhanced through chunk-based data transfers, and the software resolves bugs including the “Is a directory” error and configuration load failures. The library now properly removes orphaned entries after uninstalling software. Font smoothing is enabled by default, while GNOME has been updated to version 49. Weblate translations are working again, and a more visible donation button rounds out the improvements of this new edition.
