Spotify adds Managed Accounts for kids with parental controls and separate recommendations

Spotify is rolling out the Managed Accounts feature, allowing parents and guardians on Premium Family Plans to create dedicated sub-accounts for children under 13. Building on earlier pilots in several countries, this update is now expanding to major markets, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands.

With Managed Accounts, each child gains an individual profile for recommendations, playlists, and listening history. This separation prevents children’s music tastes from affecting parents’ Spotify Wrapped and algorithmic suggestions. Parents can enhance safety with robust parental controls, such as explicit content filters, blocking specific artists or songs, and toggling off video and Canvas visuals.

Managed Accounts disable messaging and other interactive features to create a safer space while keeping familiar tools like Discover Weekly and Daylist, with content now tailored to their individual listening. The feature is available only to Premium Family subscribers, who can set it up from Settings and privacy under Premium Family by selecting Add a listener aged under 13.
