PowerToys 0.95 introduces new Light Switch utility for automatic light/dark mode switching

Microsoft has released PowerToys 0.95, introducing the new Light Switch utility that automatically switches between light and dark modes. Users can finally set custom schedules or base them on local sunrise and sunset times, with adjustable offsets. The feature allows switching for the system shell, apps, or both, and supports a shortcut for quick toggling.

The update also enhances the Command Palette with a new fuzzy matcher and smarter fallback system for faster and more accurate searches. Benchmarks show a major speed boost, with “access” searches reduced from 633 to 113 milliseconds and “copilot” from 257 to 78.

Other improvements include options to ignore or clear shortcut conflicts, transparency control in Find My Mouse, and customizable crosshairs for Mouse Pointer Crosshairs. PowerToys 0.95 also adds Desired State Configuration v3 support, a Welsh layout for Quick Accent, and smoother zooming in ZoomIt. Future updates will bring a redesigned Keyboard Manager UI, local model support for Advanced Paste, and an updated Shortcut Guide.

Automatic changing theme based on the time of day? It's even possible to get the preview of a file by pressing space bar? Just like any other OS since more than ten years? Well, that's pretty amazing... for Windows.
