OpenProject 16.5 improves meeting section, color modes, project filters, and accessibility

OpenProject 16.5 has been released as the latest version of this open source project management software. This update brings key improvements to meeting and workflow efficiency by enabling direct section assignment for work packages from the Meetings tab. Users can now add work packages directly to targeted sections or the backlog, while an improved selector makes it simpler to find relevant meetings, including recurring events.

Building on earlier accessibility updates, color mode selection is now more practical. Users can choose between Light, Dark, or Automatic modes and toggle an “Increase contrast” checkbox for their current preference. This change streamlines customization for visually impaired users and simplifies theme management overall.

Following these enhancements, project lists now feature an “Updated on” column and filter, allowing users to sort and combine criteria to identify and track recently changed projects efficiently. Deep links have also been improved to go beyond opening pages, directly scrolling and highlighting specific items to speed up navigation.

Accessibility also sees further gains with added ARIA semantics. Screen readers can now announce the relationship between confirmation checkboxes and action buttons, making forms easier to navigate for those using assistive technologies. The help menu has received a restructuring as well, with refreshed links and localizations, making documentation and support resources easier for all users to locate.
