Cairo-Dock 3.6 released with Wayland and HiDPI support, plus improved systemd integration
Cairo-Dock 3.6 brings significant improvements for Linux desktop users by introducing initial support for the Wayland display protocol. The dock now works under several Wayland compositors, such as Wayfire, KWin, Labwc, and COSMIC, although GNOME is not yet supported. In addition, this release adds high-resolution (HiDPI) screen support with integer scaling. This ensures all Cairo-Dock elements appear sharp and clear, avoiding the blurriness seen on modern high-resolution monitors.
Building on these display enhancements, Cairo-Dock 3.6 integrates with the systemd init system. Users can now run Cairo-Dock as a systemd service. Applications launched from the dock will be placed in their own systemd slice by default, providing better system organization and resource management. Alongside this, the detection of applications has been reworked. The update corrects many prior issues where application identification failed or produced errors.
Following changes to the applets, the weather widget now uses a new provider. As a result, users need to re-enter their location as coordinates. The developers plan a more user-friendly location selection method for the next release. Cairo-Dock 3.6 also includes updated translations in several languages, plus additional enhancements and bug fixes.
