MultiVersus to shut down after Season 5: offline mode available for local play
Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games have announced the official shutdown of MultiVersus after the completion of Season 5, one of the most recent alternatives to the popular Super Smash Bros. series. The final update will run from February 4 to May 30, 2025, after which the game will be taken offline.
Post-shutdown, access will be limited to offline local gameplay mode, allowing solo play against AI or multiplayer with up to three friends. This mode requires players to have installed the latest version and logged in during Season 5 to create a local save file. This save file, linked to the player's account on platforms like PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Xbox Live, Steam, or Epic Games Store, will retain all earned and purchased content for offline use.
Real-money transactions will cease as of January 31, disallowing further purchases. However, new in-game content, including characters like Aquaman and Lola Bunny, will be unlockable through gameplay. After May 30, the game will no longer be available for download from digital stores. The developers expressed gratitude to the MultiVersus community for their support and emphasized pride in the game's social and cooperative experience featuring a variety of popular characters and worlds.
