Instagram announces Edits, a new video editing application amid CapCut ban in the US
Instagram has announced a new application called Edits, designed to rival the recently banned CapCut in the US. Edits is a free mobile video editing tool that provides creators with a comprehensive suite of features to streamline the video creation process on their phones. Users can export videos without watermarks, manage drafts and videos in one location, and capture high-quality clips up to 10 minutes long, with seamless sharing to Instagram in 1080p.
The app includes advanced features such as AI animation, voice and video effects, stickers, background noise reduction, and automatic caption generation with customization options. Additionally, Edits offers a live insights dashboard to track Instagram Reels performance, aiding in planning future content based on audience engagement.
Although Edits is slated for release on March 15, 2025, it is already listed in the Apple App Store for those interested to pre-order it. It will also be coming soon to Android, according to head of Instagram Adam Mosseri.

Meta (aka Zuckerberg) has done a lot of lobbying to ban TikTok/ByteDance in the US. Given the monopolistic nature of Meta, which doesn't seem to bother US Justice, it's always a matter of time before a new Meta's app comes to replace another existing one at the first sign of trouble. Needless to remind, of course, that the expanding Meta/Zuckerberg wealth has never came from the greatness of their products, but only from user tracking.
