EA's Origin PC storefront shutting down in 2025; transition to EA app required
Electronic Arts has revealed that its Origin PC storefront and launcher will be shutting down on April 17th, 2025, marking the end of its 14-year service since its inception in 2011. Origin, which has faced criticism and unpopularity among users, will be replaced by the EA App, a successor that has also received mixed feedback from the gaming community. As Origin phases out, PC gamers will need to switch to the EA App to maintain access to their game libraries and gameplay data.
The discontinuation of Origin is partly driven by Microsoft's decision to end support for 32-bit software, necessitating the EA App's requirement for a 64-bit Windows operating system. This change makes the EA App incompatible with older 32-bit PCs.
EA encourages users to download the EA App promptly to ensure a smooth transition and to check that their game saves are correctly transferred. While cloud saves should automatically transfer for supported games, manual save file transfers will be needed for games without cloud save capabilities.
Way to inconvenience the six people that have it installed.
