Datadog acquires Quickwit to boost real-time observability with open-source log management

Datadog has acquired Quickwit, an open-source distributed search engine that specializes in log management, to enhance its real-time observability solutions. Quickwit's cloud-native solution is designed for managing logs at scale, focusing on cost efficiency and high-speed performance. It offers flexible deployment options, either on-premises or in cloud environments, giving organizations control over their log data.

This acquisition is particularly aimed at industries like financial services, insurance, and healthcare, which face stringent data residency, privacy, and regulatory requirements. These sectors often encounter challenges in maintaining full observability due to the need to keep log data within specific regions or environments.

Despite the acquisition, Quickwit will remain open-source, with a major update planned under the Apache License 2. The integration of Quickwit's capabilities is expected to enhance monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization for organizations handling sensitive or regulated data. The Quickwit team will now concentrate on integrating their platform with Datadog, ensuring the continuity and further development of their open-source project.
