PlayStation 5 major update: Welcome Hub, Party Share, and personalized 3D audio profiles
Sony has released a major update for the PlayStation 5, featuring several new additions including the Welcome Hub, a revamped Explore tab with customizable widgets and backgrounds on the home screen. These widgets display information such as storage, battery levels, and online friends, and can be adjusted for size and position. Initially available to a limited number of users, the Welcome Hub will be rolled out globally within 1-2 months.
The update also introduces a Party Share feature, allowing users to invite friends to a party voice chat from any messaging app, even if they are not on the PlayStation Network friends list. This is done by creating a party link through the Control Center and sharing a QR code for others to join via PS5 or PlayStation App. Additionally, personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones are now available, tailored to individual hearing characteristics, with presets still accessible.
Other notable updates include adaptive charging for the PS5 CFI-2000 model, which adjusts the power supply to the controller based on its battery level to conserve power during rest mode. Users can now manage Remote Play connections through system settings, and the license restoration feature has been improved for easier management. A new storage recommendation feature provides insights about storage space, and game hubs now only display activities currently in progress. System software performance and stability have also been enhanced, along with updates to various controllers and usability improvements on some screens.
