Files v3.7 launched with improved tab management, navigation history and folder thumbnails
The popular open-source file manager Files has released its latest update, Files v3.7. Notable changes include a new option in the Advanced settings to hide the System Tray icon and improved tab management that now switches to an existing tab when opening a location that's already open, preventing duplicate tabs
A new navigation history feature lets users view their history for the back and forward buttons by right-clicking or pressing and holding on a touchscreen, while breadcrumb flyouts now include folder thumbnails for improved visual navigation. Additionally, an optional home button has been added to the toolbar, which can be enabled in the Appearance settings for easier access.
Users can optimize performance by customizing the number of CPU threads used for creating archives, and a new keyboard shortcut can be assigned for direct navigation to the home page. Experimental support for flattening folders allows transferring all files from nested folders into the root directory for simpler management. The update also includes various bug fixes and improvements, detailed in the official changelog.
