Fedora Linux 41 Beta released with Linux 6.11, DNF 5, RPM 4.20, and Redis replacement
The Fedora Project has announced the release of Fedora Linux 41 Beta, which includes Fedora Workstation, Server, IoT, and Cloud versions. Users can download the beta from the Fedora Project’s website or upgrade from an existing system using the DNF system-upgrade command.
This beta release includes key changes include such as the replacement of Redis with Valkey due to Redis' new proprietary license and the removal of Python 2, except for PyPy, which requires updates or retirement of dependent packages. The proprietary Nvidia driver installation has been reintroduced via GNOME Software with Secure Boot support, catering to users needing Nvidia drivers for gaming or AI workloads.
Fedora 41 Beta also introduces DNF 5 for faster package management and RPM 4.20 for enhanced system performance. Additional features include reproducible builds, fedora-repoquery, and the Miracle spin. The final release of Fedora Linux 41 is expected in late October or early November 2024.
