Zotero 7 launches: modern design, dark mode, and enhanced performance for researchers

Zotero 7 has launched with significant updates to enhance usability and performance, and a completely modernized redesign, including a new app icon. The item pane has been revamped with collapsible vertical sections and a customizable header for more efficient information display and navigation.

A dark mode option has been integrated, with basic support for PDF and EPUB content and the ability to disable it for specific documents. The built-in reader now supports EPUB and webpage snapshots, offering metadata retrieval and annotation capabilities, along with new annotation types like ink, underline, and text annotations. Users can choose between Compact and Comfortable interface density settings, with the latter being the new default. Performance improvements include native support for Apple Silicon Macs, 64-bit Windows, and Windows on ARM.

Additional enhancements include a smart reference popup for citations, an improved citation dialog, a collection search feature, and a tabs menu for better tab management. File renaming options have been expanded, and accessibility improvements for screen reader users and keyboard navigation have been implemented. You can check the detailed list of changes in the official changelog.
