Meta enhances Threads' fediverse integration with Mastodon sharing and visible replies

Meta has been working on integrating Threads with the fediverse over the past months, enhancing its interoperability with decentralized social media platforms. The latest update now allows Threads users to share posts to Mastodon and other ActivityPub-enabled services, embedding the app further within the fediverse ecosystem.

A notable new feature makes replies from platforms like Mastodon more visible within Threads. Users can now see a "fediverse replies" section under posts that receive comments from federated accounts, though viewing these replies requires opting into fediverse sharing, which is currently in beta and does not guarantee all replies will be displayed.

Despite the increased visibility of fediverse content, Threads still does not support replying to fediverse replies, limiting user engagement with content from other decentralized platforms. Meta engineer Peter Cottle has indicated that enabling replies to fediverse comments is a priority, suggesting future updates may address this limitation.
