Xbox 360 store closes after 19 years, ending new game purchases
The Xbox 360 store officially closed today, marking the end of nearly 19 years of operation. Users can no longer purchase Xbox 360 games or downloadable content (DLC) from the marketplace, although previously acquired games and DLC can still be played and redownloaded.
Microsoft had announced the store's closure in August 2023, providing users with almost a year to prepare. The Microsoft Films & TV app will also cease to operate on Xbox 360 consoles, affecting users who accessed content through this platform.
Despite the store's closure, backward-compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox games will still be available for purchase on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox.com. Online multiplayer functionality for Xbox 360 games will continue, depending on individual game publishers and developers. The shutdown marks the end of a significant era for Xbox 360 users, closing a chapter that began with the store's launch nearly two decades ago 🫡
No big loss. One of the most pirated content there has been.
Go to East Asia and you can still find them for about $1 per cd, or buy books of 50+ cds.
I'd say the PS2 and Xbox 360 were super successful partly because of this, especially in Asia and South America
