X developing feature to block links in replies, aiming to combat spam bots

Independent app researcher Nima Owji has uncovered a new feature in development by X aimed at blocking links in replies. Owji posted an image showing a checkbox that users can select to disable links in replies to their posts, a move intended to combat spam bots.

While the primary goal is to reduce spam, this feature could also prevent genuine users from promoting their websites in replies. Additionally, it might hinder efforts to debunk false information by restricting the ability to link to credible sources.

Christopher Stanley, Senior Director for Security Engineering at X, confirmed the feature in a response post, stating that his team is responsible for its development.

It would be a better idea to ban account posting links included in Ublock Origin's blocklists, or maybe just the tweets with bad links.
