Thunderbird making progress towards version 128 ESR with Mozilla Sync and custom colors
The Thunderbird team has released their latest monthly development digest, detailing significant advancements in the popular email client. The primary focus this month has been on testing and refining version 128 beta, which is set to become the Extended Support Release (ESR) on July 10th. Notably, users can now see custom colors for their accounts in the compose windows, addressing an 18-year-old feature request. This improvement is attributed to a more reliable and modular code base with a clearer separation between data and UI.
Additionally, the Mozilla Sync client code is complete, and the team is currently testing server data syncing against a temporary staging server. However, Mozilla Sync is unlikely to be enabled by default in the initial ESR release due to some challenging points. It is expected to be enabled in version 128.1 or 128.2, contingent on the production server's readiness.
Thunderbird 128 beta is available for download now, and users are encouraged to help test and report any bugs they encounter.
