digiKam 8.4 released with auto tagging translation, expanded camera support, and more
digiKam has rolled out its latest version 8.4, bringing a host of new features and updates. Key enhancements include online translations for automatic tagging and an updated GMIC-Qt to version 3.4.0, offering over 600 photo effects. The internal RAW decoder LibRaw has been updated to the 2024-07-11 snapshot, adding support for new cameras. Adobe's DNG toolkit has been upgraded to version 1.7.1, now featuring JPEG-XL compression for more efficient digital negative storage.
digiKam also now supports the new LensFun 0.4 toolkit API, maintaining compatibility with the camera lens database while introducing significant improvements. For Qt5 users, the internal QtAVPlayer is updated to the 2024-06-16 snapshot, while the Qt6 version now supports frame-by-frame video advancement. Metadata management sees updates to ExifTool 12.88 and Exiv2 0.28.2.
The Linux AppImage and Windows versions are available in Qt6 and Qt5, now featuring the latest stable releases of 6.7.2 and 5.15.14, respectively, with the KDE framework updated to 6.2.0 and 5.116.
