Proton Drive's secure and private photo backup is now available for iPhone users

Proton has announced that iPhone users can now take advantage of Proton Drive's secure and private photo backup capabilities. This feature is being gradually rolled out and will be accessible to all users by the end of this week.

As with all Proton services, Proton Drive uses end-to-end encryption, ensuring that your photos and metadata are fully encrypted on your device before being synced to the cloud. This guarantees that only you have access to your data. After setting up photo backup on your iPhone, the app will automatically sync new photos to Proton Drive.

Once your photos are securely encrypted on the Proton Drive cloud, they can be accessed from any browser. Additionally, you can mark files and photos as available offline, ensuring access to them even without internet connectivity. These photos will remain on your device while also being securely stored in the cloud.

In traditional Proton's fashion "too late, too little". Be careful, since it is not "full" backup. If you're using Live Photos Camera features, Proton Drive will not backup the "video part" of your photos. It only backs up the HEIC image (and your normal mp4 videos offcourse). I wonder what is going on in Proton, this app went 10 months straight without updates.
