Meta rolls out new Community feature on Messenger for organized group communication

Meta is quietly rolling out a new Communities feature on Messenger, aimed at facilitating communication for organizations, schools, and private groups in a more structured manner. This feature, which follows the introduction of Communities on WhatsApp in 2022, allows up to 5,000 people to join via shareable invites. Within these communities, members can engage in group chats and access a home feed where admins can post updates and announcements.

Previously, Meta had introduced Community Chats on Messenger for Facebook Group members to connect. However, the new Communities feature eliminates the need for membership in a Facebook Group, broadening its accessibility. According to a Help page from Meta, Communities on Messenger are designed for more public conversations and follow privacy guidelines similar to those of community chats associated with Facebook Groups. This means that all current and future members can view chat content, and Meta will review content against its Community Standards.
