Linux distribution AlmaLinux now officially supports the Raspberry Pi 5

AlmaLinux, a RHEL-compatible Linux distribution, has announced support for the Raspberry Pi 5. AlmaLinux developer Koichiro Iwao highlighted that the community had eagerly awaited this update. The kernels used for building AlmaLinux Raspberry Pi images were initially created by CentOS, involving extensive effort to adapt them for the Raspberry Pi 5.

Previously available for the Raspberry Pi 4, the transition to Raspberry Pi 5 required “considerable time and effort”. AlmaLinux offers standard Raspberry Pi images featuring the GNOME desktop environment. These images can be downloaded from the AlmaLinux website, with an installation guide available in the AlmaLinux Wiki.
