Figma is relocating where your drafts live for users on a Starter and Professional team

Figma has announced significant changes for users on Starter and Professional teams regarding the location of their drafts. Starting this week, users will be prompted to move their drafts into a team space. Drafts will now reside in a “Drafts to move” location, allowing users to either move them into the appropriate teams or create a free Starter team for all their drafts. Despite this relocation, drafts will remain private, and users can still create and edit drafts free of charge.

Figma states that the current drafts model, where drafts live outside of teams, has led to issues such as unclear ownership and inconsistent product experiences. Additionally, the draft model on Starter and Professional plans does not align with the Organization and Enterprise plans, which leads to a lack of access to paid features like advanced prototyping, password protection, or Dev Mode in drafts. This update aims to standardize the drafts model across all plans, ensuring drafts are associated with a team while maintaining a private draft space within each team. The rollout of this update will occur over the next few days.

This is an extremely unnecessary change that will only confuse users further, and the reasoning provided by the company seems like mere excuses to push users towards a subscription that may not be needed by everyone. This feels like a misstep from Figma.
