Cinnamon 6.2 released with new features and enhancements ahead of Linux Mint 22 “Wilma”

Cinnamon, the desktop environment developed by the Linux Mint team, has released version 6.2. This update will be the default desktop in the upcoming Linux Mint 22 “Wilma”, slated for release later this summer.

Cinnamon 6.2 is a relatively small update. Users will find greeter badges for Cinnamon sessions and an option to display the search bar by default in the app chooser dialog. New screen lock delay options and an “Actions Organizer” tool in the Nemo file manager are also included.

The update broadens support for cloud-based applications through the “GNOME Online Account GTK” XApp. Enhanced security and application management are notable in the Software Manager, where unverified Flatpak packages are now hidden by default, addressing software credibility concerns. Additionally, Cinnamon 6.2 brings numerous minor changes, improvements, and bug fixes, further refining the user experience.
