Visual Studio Code 1.89 launches with Markdown media preview and many other enhancements

Microsoft has unveiled version 1.89 of Visual Studio Code, its widely used code editor. The updated version introduces a host of new features designed to enhance user experience and streamline coding tasks.

In this new version, users can hover over a link to preview images and videos in Markdown, a feature that simplifies the process of viewing multimedia content. It also enables users to seamlessly restore open editors when toggling between branches, and paste text in the terminal using a mouse middle-click for quick data transfer.

The update also extends its compatibility with Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) when connected to a remote machine via remote SSH, allowing for a more flexible and efficient remote coding environment.

In terms of navigation, users can now navigate through comments, chat code blocks, and terminal commands from the Accessible View. Additionally, the update allows users to customize keybindings for UI actions directly with a right-click.

Searching for text across your workspace is made easier with Quick Search. The editor also now provides intelligent rename suggestions with GitHub Copilot, and users have the option to exclude files from being used in the Copilot context.

The update also allows for the inclusion and installation of extensions directly in your workspace, providing a more streamlined and efficient coding environment.

Beyond these new features, Visual Studio Code 1.89 also introduces a new icon picker for the terminal, native IntelliSense for PowerShell, and support for TypeScript 5.5 beta. It also includes accessibility improvements, various enhancements, and bug fixes.
