Spotify has quietly implemented a monthly limit on the lyrics feature for free users

Spotify has recently introduced a paywall for viewing song lyrics, meaning users now need a premium subscription to access this feature. The change was noticed by Reddit users before being confirmed by Spotify, but the company has yet to announce which markets are affected.

Spotify has been testing this feature by restricting lyrics access for non-paying users in certain markets since September 2023, but now the limitation appears to be more widespread. It seems that the company has implemented a monthly limit for lyrics access for free users, with each view counting towards this limit, and when users exceed this limit, they are prompted to upgrade their account when they attempt to view song lyrics, in an attempt by the company to encourage more users to subscribe to Spotify's paid tier.

The success of this strategy in encouraging more premium subscriptions is yet to be seen; however, a negative response from the public is to be expected, especially considering that there are always other third-party and well-integrated alternative services like Musixmatch that provide this same service in a more accessible manner.
