ChatGPT's new memory feature is now available to all ChatGPT Plus users
OpenAI has introduced a new Memory feature for its ChatGPT, first released to a limited user base in February and now expanded to ChatGPT Plus subscribers outside of Europe and Korea (it's currently not available in those territories). This feature improves the chatbot's responses by storing user inquiries, commands, and preferences, creating a more personalized user experience similar to an individual AI assistant.
The Memory feature is customizable to users' specific needs and preferences, allowing them to instruct ChatGPT to remember specific details, and the AI system learns from previous conversations, enhancing its responses based on past interactions. It can be used in various ways, from summarizing meeting notes to generating tailored social media messages and suggesting personalized content There's also a new functionality that allows ChatGPT to inform users when memories are updated, giving them the opportunity to review and manage stored information. However, it's important to note that ChatGPT may forget details if a significant amount of time elapses or if a new conversation starts.
So far, OpenAI has not explained why Europe and Korea were initially excluded from accessing the Memory feature. The company intends to extend Memory to ChatGPT Enterprise and Teams subscribers and custom GPTs on the GPT Store, but has not provided a specific timeline.
