Yahoo acquires AI-powered news platform Artifact to bring its features to Yahoo News

Just a few months after Artifact, the AI-driven news aggregation platform developed by Instagram co-founders, announced its shutdown due to insufficient user interest, it appears that the platform may have found a new lease on life. Yahoo has confirmed its acquisition of Artifact, marking a potential rebirth for the platform.

Yahoo has stated that Artifact will cease to function as a separate app. Instead, its proprietary AI-driven personalization technology and additional features will be incorporated into various Yahoo platforms, including the Yahoo News app, in the upcoming months.

Yahoo has expressed optimism about the integration of Artifact's technology, stating, “The technology Artifact has created will be even more impactful with the scale of the Yahoo News network, ranked the #1 news and information property in the US in 2023.”

The acquisition of Artifact will introduce a range of features to the Yahoo portfolio. These enhancements are designed to improve user experience, including easy access to top news, link-sharing capabilities, and tools to combat the spread of clickbait news.

Yahoo has also confirmed that Artifact's co-founders, CEO Kevin Systrom and CTO Mike Krieger, will serve in an advisory capacity during the transition period.
