Thunderbird progresses with Exchange compatibility and adds List Management feature
The Thunderbird team has recently shared their 'Development Digest' for March, highlighting the latest advancements and future trajectory of the software's development. The team has achieved initial Exchange Autodiscovery and OAuth compatibility in their account setup flow, along with the ability to fetch and render all folders. Although some areas still require refinement, progress is being made towards having these new features behind a pref in the upcoming beta release.
In addition, the team has begun to address the mailing list subscription process with the initial implementation of the List Management feature. This feature, which is currently accessible via a context menu on the List ID, was unveiled on the daily and beta versions of the software, and was announced in the tb-beta mailing list, accompanied by a screenshot demonstrating its functionality. The team is now exploring UX and UI options to seamlessly integrate this feature without it becoming intrusive.
The Thunderbird team has also completed the ESMification process. While this significant architectural change will not impact users directly, it does mark the transition from all .jsm files to standard JavaScript modules, enabling Thunderbird to take full advantage of the benefits of modern JavaScript.
Lastly, this Thunderbird update incorporates several quality of life enhancements, minor changes, and bug fixes, further contributing to the software's evolution.
