Mayday calendar app announces acquisition and upcoming termination of all services
The promising calendar and scheduling app Mayday has unexpectedly announced its acquisition, which will result in the termination of all its products and services. The news came after a period of silence from the Mayday team, leaving users surprised. The company has not disclosed the identity of the acquiring entity and has confirmed that all Mayday services will cease on May 5, 2024.
Until the closure date, current users can continue using the app, but the registration of new accounts and subscriptions has been stopped. Active Scheduling Links provided by Mayday will also be deactivated on the closure date, requiring users to seek alternative scheduling link providers.
Mayday has confirmed that user data will not be transferred to the acquiring company and will be deleted after the shutdown, following data retention policies. While calendar data will remain in users' Google Calendar or Outlook.com accounts, Mayday-specific data, such as Flexible Tasks, will be permanently deleted. Users are advised to export any necessary Mayday-specific data before the shutdown date.
Thus, Mayday joins several other productivity startups that have been closed or transformed shortly after being acquired, similar to Cron Calendar. Luckily, there are still several similar alternatives to choose from like Notion Calendar (formerly Cron Calendar), Rise Calendar, Fantastical, Amie, or HEY Calendar.
