Disney to implement measures limiting password sharing on streaming services from June
Disney+ plans to introduce the previously tested measures to limit password sharing from June, with full implementation by September, according to CEO Bob Iger. The initiative will initially roll out in select countries and markets, with a broader launch planned by September.
The move is part of Disney's strategy to increase profitability for its streaming services - Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.
Unlike Netflix, Disney has not specified the methods or potential costs associated with combating password sharing. For comparison, Netflix began charging non-household members a monthly fee for account access in the US in May 2023, leading to significant subscriber growth. This news comes as Disney+ just recently integrated Hulu content into its US platform a few days ago.
