Thunderbird for Android makes progress with revamped email account setup

The Thunderbird team has unveiled K-9 Mail 6.800, a version that simplifies the process of adding and setting up email accounts.

Prior to this, automatic setup was only compatible with a select few large email providers, necessitating manual input of incoming and outgoing server settings for other email providers. The team has now completely overhauled the account setup component, streamlining the process of adding and setting up email accounts. However, there may be instances where automatic configuration is not possible, prompting the user to manually input the server settings, but Thunderbird says they're “working with email providers to hopefully reduce the number of times this happens”.

In addition to the account setup overhaul, the Thunderbird team has implemented several minor changes and bug fixes. These advancements are part of the team's ongoing efforts to transform K-9 Mail into Thunderbird for Android.

The rollout of K-9 Mail 6.800 has started and is available for download on GitHub, Google Play Store, and F-Droid.

Waiting for Thunderbird branding (because the logo is cool) and possibly a modern ui overhaul. Material you or something.
