Tails 6.1 has been released with several enhancements and numerous bug and security fixes
Tails, the renowned Linux-based portable operating system known for its robust protection against surveillance and censorship, has recently launched its 6.1 version. This latest version brings with it a host of updates and bug fixes, enhancing the overall user experience.
In the new Tails 6.1, users will find Tor Browser version 13.0.13 and Thunderbird version 115.9.0. These updated versions aim to provide a smoother and more secure browsing and email experience.
One of the significant fixes in this update is for Onion Circuits, a feature that was previously experiencing issues. Additionally, the update rectifies the recurring “Welcome to Tails! is not responding” error message that was frequently appearing on the Welcome Screen.
The update also addresses an issue with the Videos app, where an error message was displayed during playback. This fix ensures a more seamless viewing experience for users.
Another critical fix in Tails 6.1 is related to the Persistent Storage feature. Previously, users encountered problems when changing the passphrase of the Persistent Storage. This issue has now been resolved, enhancing the security and usability of this feature.
Moreover, Tails Cloner, a feature that allows users to install and upgrade the system, now supports devices with multiple mounted partitions. This enhancement broadens the range of devices on which Tails can be installed and upgraded.
The Persistent Storage settings in Tails 6.1 now display all enabled custom Persistent Storage features. This update provides users with a comprehensive view of their storage settings, making it easier to manage their data.
Lastly, Tails 6.1 also addresses the RFDS Intel CPU vulnerabilities, a significant security concern for many users. This mitigation ensures that users of Tails 6.1 are protected against potential security threats posed by these vulnerabilities.
