Setapp will become one of the first iOS third-party app stores in the EU
MacPaw, the company behind popular macOS applications like CleanMyMac, Gemini, and The Unarchiver, has revealed the beta version of Setapp mobile for the European Union, set to launch this April.
Setapp is a subscription service that offers a vast array of apps for macOS. In light of Apple's recent decision to permit sideloading and third-party app stores to adhere to the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA), MacPaw is extending Setapp to all European iOS users. MacPaw is one of the first companies to announce plans to offer an alternative app marketplace for iOS in the EU, along with Epic Games.
MacPaw states that “This expansion promises a diverse selection of premium applications for users and a supportive environment for developers.” Oleksandr Kosovan, CEO and Founder of MacPaw, added, “We are setting a new path for the software industry towards a better and more diverse app ecosystem. This will offer customers more choices and a better overall user experience.”
The beta version will feature a handpicked collection of apps, incorporating popular choices from the Setapp catalog. MacPaw is inviting those interested in gaining access to Setapp Mobile to join the waitlist.
