OpenAI introduces 'Read Aloud' feature in ChatGPT app, supporting 37 languages

OpenAI has introduced a "Read Aloud" feature in its ChatGPT app for iOS, Android and web version. The feature allows users to hear written responses from ChatGPT and can be set for verbal responses. It also comes with five voice options, supports 37 languages and includes an auto-detection function for language identification.

The Read Aloud feature is compatible with GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 models. On mobile devices, the feature is activated by tapping and holding text, while on the web, it can be accessed via a speaker icon below the text.

This new feature contributes to OpenAI's progress in multimodal capabilities and its capacity to interact through multiple mediums, something particularly important especially now that some of its main competitors have just launched new versions, such as Anthropic with the new Claude 3 version, and Google with Gemini and Gemma.
