OBS Studio 30.1 released with AV1 support for VA-API, PipeWire Video Capture, and more

OBS Studio, the renowned free and open-source software for video recording and live-streaming, has unveiled version 30.1, introducing a host of new features and enhancements. The update includes AV1 support for VA-API and WebRTC/WHIP output, broadening the software's compatibility range.

The 30.1 version also introduces new source types, including PipeWire Video Capture Device and Capture Card Device for macOS users. Windows users can also leverage the new Capture Audio option for window/game capture.

The release further expands HDR support, enabling HDR for HEVC over RTMP. However, it's important to note that AV1 HDR is currently not supported by YouTube.

The Image Slideshow source has been overhauled in OBS Studio 30.1, now loading files asynchronously. Other enhancements include a Premultiplied Alpha option for game capture on Windows, an automatic cropping to bounding box option, a maxRGB tonemapper for SDR in the HDR Tone Mapping filter, GPU rescaling options for streaming and recording outputs, channel selection for CoreAudio input devices, and multi-track audio support for mpegts.

Users with NVIDIA graphics may need to update their GPU drivers to 531.61 or newer to take full advantage of the update. The OBS Studio 30.1 release concludes with a series of improvements, changes, and bug fixes, further enhancing the user experience and software stability.
