MyHeritage launched OldNews, a subscription portal for accessing historical Newspapers
MyHeritage has launched OldNews, a subscription-based platform offering access to historical newspapers from the 1800s and 1900s for $99 per year, with a 7-day free trial for newcomers. The platform presents a variety of content from global newspapers to local journals, encompassing headline news, obituaries, sports, culture, and advertisements, targeting primarily genealogists, educators, researchers, and history enthusiasts.
The OldNews.com database, which will expand monthly with millions of newspaper pages, initially includes newspapers from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Austria, the Netherlands, and Australia, with plans to include more. The platform supports 11 languages, and uses advanced search technology like OCR and proprietary algorithms for accurate search results. Users can view, print or download articles, and the platform plans to add features like saving and sharing newspaper clippings.
MyHeritage aims to make OldNews.com a great alternative to similar services like NewspaperArchive or Newspapers by Ancestry, and become the leading online repository for historical newspapers worldwide by regularly expanding its content and adding new features.
