GNOME 46 'Kathmandu' released wth improved search, Files app, and online accounts
The GNOME project recently unveiled its latest release, version 46, code-named “Kathmandu”. This moniker acknowledges the contributions of the GNOME Asia 2023 organizers. The new release introduces several enhancements and features.
Files, the GNOME file manager, now boasts a global search feature. Activated by clicking a dedicated button or using the Ctrl+Shift+F shortcut, users can search all configured locations. The Files app has also received a substantial upgrade in version 46, with improved feedback for long-running file operations. A dynamic progress section has been added to the sidebar's base. Furthermore, significant code refactoring has resulted in a performance boost for the Files app.
The Online Accounts feature in GNOME 46 has been substantially upgraded, with notable support for Microsoft OneDrive. Users can set up a Microsoft 365 account through the settings, and OneDrive will appear in the Files sidebar, allowing easy access and browsing alongside local files and folders.
The remote desktop experience in GNOME 46 has been greatly enhanced. The introduction of a dedicated remote login option allows users to connect remotely to a GNOME system not currently in use.
The Settings app in GNOME 46 has undergone a comprehensive update, featuring navigation enhancements, new touchpad settings, and a considerable amount of polish.
In addition to these significant upgrades, GNOME 46 also introduces accessibility improvements, system enhancements, updated and improved apps, as well as minor enhancements and bug fixes.
