Glassdoor accused of exposing users' real names without consent, raising privacy concerns
Glassdoor, known for its anonymous workplace reviews, is reportedly exposing users' real names without consent, as per an ArsTechnica report. This comes after Glassdoor's 2021 acquisition of FishBowl, which changed the sign-up process. Now, new users are automatically registered on FishBowl, a process that could potentially reveal personal information.
Some users have found their real names displayed on their Glassdoor profiles against their wishes. Despite their attempts to remove it, a Glassdoor manager insisted it remain, contradicting the platform's promise of complete anonymity, causing confusion about the platform's privacy policies. Other users discovered inaccuracies in their profiles, including incorrect locations and misspelled employer names.
The situation highlights the critical issues of privacy and consent on digital platforms, emphasizing the need for clear communication and transparency when dealing with user data. Glassdoor, being a vital platform for candid critiques of workplace practices across various companies, raises significant alarm as real names might inadvertently become associated with users, potentially impacting their professional careers.
