GitLab 16.10 released with semantic versioning in the CI/CD catalog and improved analytics

GitLab, a well-known alternative to GitHub for developers, has just unveiled its latest version, 16.10. The new version introduces semantic versioning in the CI/CD catalog and a host of other features and enhancements.

In a bid to ensure uniform behavior across published components, GitLab 16.10 will enforce the 3-digit semantic versioning standard for components published to the CI/CD catalog. Upon publishing a component, the tag must adhere to this standard.

GitLab 16.10 also allows users to disable GitLab Duo AI features for a project, a group, or an instance using the API. Users can then reactivate GitLab Duo for specific projects or groups at their convenience. This is part of a broader initiative to give users more control over AI features.

The latest version introduces new templates to the Wiki, enabling users to create templates to facilitate the creation of new pages or modification of existing ones.

Improvements have also been made to the Contribution Analytics report, which is now powered by an advanced analytics database using ClickHouse. This upgrade lays the groundwork for extensive analytics and reporting features, enabling GitLab to provide high-performance analytics aggregations, filtering, and slicing across multiple dimensions.

Additionally, GitLab Pages and Advanced Search are now available for all GitLab Dedicated instances as part of the GitLab Dedicated subscription.

GitLab 16.10 also introduces the ability to offload CI runner traffic to Geo secondary sites. This allows users to position runner fleets where they are most convenient and cost-effective to operate and manage, while minimizing cross-region traffic. The load can be distributed across multiple secondary Geo sites, reducing the load on the primary site and freeing up resources for developer traffic.

Other features of GitLab 16.10 include custom payload templates for webhooks, support for threaded notifications in Google Chat, and more.
