Discord unveils embedded app SDK, opening game and app development within the platform
Discord has launched its Embedded App Software Development Kit (SDK), enabling all developers to build games and apps within the chat platform, a feature previously limited to a select group.
The SDK employs Discord's Activities feature, previously utilized for apps like YouTube and mini-games, to allow developers to integrate games and experiences seamlessly within Discord via iframes, giving them the opportunity to create, distribute, and monetize their work.
As part of its strategy to become a comprehensive platform for developers, Discord is also testing a feature to let users add apps to their accounts for improved accessibility and experience across servers. This feature, aimed at enhancing user experience with a variety of embedded apps and games, will be launched alongside the app SDK on March 18th.
