Chrome 123 update comes with new developer features and several security fixes
The Chrome team has recently announced the promotion of Chrome 123 to the stable channel for Windows, Mac, and Linux. This latest version brings with it a host of enhancements and a focus on security fixes.
The update addresses 12 security issues in the Google Chrome Stable. Out of these, seven are listed on the Chrome Releases website. The severity of these issues ranges up to high, however, Google hasn't reported any exploits in the wild.
In addition to security patches, Chrome 123 brings new features for web developers. These include new CSS functions that allow sites to alter their appearance based on the current color scheme, such as light or dark mode. The update also sees improvements to the Long Animation Frames API and Service Worker Static Routing API.
Another notable addition in this release is the ability to offer customized pages based on the user's navigation origin. Furthermore, Chrome 123 now supports Zstandard and introduces a picture-in-picture value for display-mode. This feature allows developers to write specific CSS rules that only apply when the web app is in picture-in-picture mode.
The rollout of Chrome 123 will occur over the upcoming days and weeks.
