Beeper launches the beta version of its new Android app with universal chat support

Beeper has introduced a beta version of its new Android application following a complex relationship with Apple that led to the discontinuation of Beeper Mini earlier this year. The redesigned app offers an enhanced design, improved performance, and supports universal chat for platforms like Telegram and WhatsApp, pretty similar to the Texts app. However, this new version lacks the native Messages support, which was a key feature of its predecessor,Beeper Mini.

The new Beeper app, which requires a fresh installation from the Play Store, is built on the same platform as Beeper Mini. It boasts an improved user interface, Android’s native QR scanner for desktop app setup, support for Android Bubbles, and a dual-pane design for foldables, tablets, and ChromeOS devices. Users can now add new chat services directly on the mobile app, a feature previously only available on the desktop version. Despite these improvements, some features such as tagging people with @, viewing message reactions, and scheduled message sending are still absent, but updates are expected to address these.

Access to the new Beeper app is currently invitation-only, but existing Beeper users can access the beta version for free, although the company plans to introduce paid subscriptions soon.
