Open source DJ software Mixxx releases version 2.4 with major changes and improvements

Mixxx, the open-source DJ software, has launched its 2.4 version, two years post the release of its previous version. The latest release comes with several enhancements, including support for exporting crates, playlists, and the library to Engine DJ OS devices like Denon and Numark standalone controllers. This functionality enables users to prepare their tracks using Mixxx on a laptop and then export them to a USB stick for usage on a standalone controller at gigs.

The 2.4 version also introduces support for Saved Loops, which can be allocated to any Hot Cue slot. The software will automatically import Saved Loops from tracks already available from Serato DJ.

Another new feature is the introduction of Effect Chains. These are a group of effects that can be saved, reloaded with all their parameters, and individual Meta Knob mappings. Users can also export and import Effect Chains, facilitating sharing among other Mixxx DJs.

Mixxx 2.4 also enhances the track menu with several new features. Users can now select loaded track in the library, analyze/re-analyze with variable/constant BPM on a per-track basis, look up track metadata at Discogs, SoundCloud, and Last.fm, and remove track files from disk.

The software now supports manually selecting the Sync Leader by clicking on the new button with the crown symbol next to the Sync button. This feature is particularly useful for tracks with variable BPM as all decks with sync enabled will follow the changing BPM of the Sync Leader.

In addition to the above enhancements, Mixxx 2.4 comes with a host of other changes and improvements, including support for Apple Silicon, and numerous bug fixes.
