Nintendo sues popular Switch emulator Yuzu over piracy, demands halt in operations
Nintendo has launched a lawsuit against the popular Switch emulator, Yuzu, aiming to cease its operations due to piracy concerns.
Discovered by journalist Stephen Totilo, Nintendo's lawsuit claims that Yuzu illegally bypasses their software encryption, allowing illegal download of multiple of their titles. The company points to instances such as the one million pre-release downloads of "Zelda Tears of the Kingdom" as proof. The lawsuit also notes that Yuzu's financial support via Patreon doubled during this time, suggesting a financial gain.
Nintendo is seeking damages for alleged violations by Yuzu and demands a complete halt to the emulator's operations, although neither Yuzu nor Nintendo have released public statements about the lawsuit or the allegations yet. It's worth noting that Nintendo has already succeeded in winning lawsuits over similar allegations against several emulators and ROM sites in the past, such as Skyline Emulator or 1fichier.
