Kubuntu 24.04 LTS will switch to Calamares installer, but won't use KDE Plasma 6
The Kubuntu Council has disclosed its plans to prepare an alpha of KDE Plasma 6, targeting the 24.10 release, as unanimously agreed during a meeting on January 30th, 2024. The information was shared by Kubuntu Council member, Rick Timmis, who detailed the council's plans for the forthcoming releases.
The council meeting primarily focused on setting the objectives for the imminent Kubuntu 24.04 Long Term Support (LTS) release. The council members engaged in comprehensive discussions to ensure that the upcoming release aligns with the “high expectations of the community” and continues the “Kubuntu legacy of excellence”.
In a significant move to ensure efficient delivery of key projects, the Kubuntu Council has agreed to contract Scarlett Gately Moore, a KDE developer, for a three-month period. Moore, with a preliminary budget assigned, is expected to contribute significantly to the 24.04 LTS release, updating the Kubuntu Installer to Calamares, and preparing an Alpha of Plasma 6 for the 24.10 release.
