ClamAV 1.3.0 released with enhanced Microsoft OneNote support, and more

ClamAV, the widely recognized open source antivirus software, has unveiled its latest update, version 1.3.0. The new version introduces a range of enhancements, including support for extracting and scanning attachments in Microsoft OneNote section files. This feature will be activated by default, however, users have the option to disable it.

In terms of operational improvements, ClamD, upon initiation, will verify the existence of the directory specified by TemporaryDirectory in clamd.conf. If the directory is not found, ClamD will print an error message and terminate with exit code 1.

For those configuring to build static libraries, the new version of ClamAV will now see CMake install the libclamav_rust, libclammspack, libclamunrar_iface, and libclamunrar static libraries, which are essential for libclamav.

The 1.3.0 version also introduces file type recognition for compiled Python (.pyc) files and enhanced support for decrypting PDFs with empty passwords. Additionally, it incorporates several minor enhancements, typo corrections, and bug fixes.

Finally, ClamAV 1.3.0 addresses a previous issue encountered when building ClamAV on the Haiku operating system. ClamAV 1.1 is past End of Life (EOL) for security fixes and will not receive any update. You should switch to the 1.0 LTS, 1.2, or 1.3 versions for continued support.
