Serpent OS goes Alpha version with GNOME 47.2, COSMIC 1.0, and enhanced hardware support
AerynOS has progressed to its alpha phase, unveiling new builds that feature GNOME 47.2 and COSMIC 1.0 Alpha 4. Built on the Linux kernel 6.12 LTS, it ensures long-term support and compatibility with the latest hardware, including patches for ASUS and Microsoft Surface devices and accommodates the open-source NVIDIA graphics driver.
Key features include automated boot management, support for multiple initrd images, and early KMS support for NVIDIA users. During installation, users can choose between XFS, EXT4, and F2FS filesystems, though EXT4 might not be ideal for systems needing numerous hardlink transactions.
Serpent OS introduces innovative tools such as moss for package management and blsforme for boot management, utilizing the LLVM/Clang 18.1.8 stack for software building. Rust-based utilities like uutils-coreutils, sudo-rs, and ntpd-rs replace traditional components, boosting security and performance. The GNOME edition includes modern Rust-based applications like the Starship shell, Zed Editor, and Loupe Image Viewer.
