Microsoft Phone Link lastest update adds File Transfers Between Windows PCs and iPhones

Microsoft has updated its Phone Link app to enable file transfers between Windows PCs and iPhones, a feature included in update version 1.24112.73. Currently being rolled out to Windows Insiders, the update supports Windows PCs and iPhones running the latest iOS versions.

Users can now use the Share option on their iPhone to send files to their PC and vice versa using the context menu in Windows, similar to how they would with AirDrop on macOS.

The update is being gradually released, so not all users will have immediate access to this new feature. This update addresses a previous limitation where the Phone Link app lacked file transfer capabilities for iPhones, unlike its support for Android devices.

Phone Link enables users to connect their Android phone or iPhone to a PC, allowing them to view and respond to text messages, as well as make and receive calls directly from their computer. It functions as a mobile remote control, offering features like SMS from PC and notification mirroring. Rated 2.8, its top alternatives include LocalSend, KDE Connect, and AirDroid.

If only the data were transmitted locally...efficiently and with privacy. Instead, it gets routed through Microsoft's remote servers first.
