Microsoft launches mixed reality app to access Windows 11 PCs in VR via Meta Quest headset

Microsoft has introduced the Mixed Reality Link app for Windows 11, now available in preview, which allows users to connect Windows 11 PCs with Meta Quest headsets and set up a multi-monitor VR workstation.

The app lets you use up to three virtual monitors in a VR environment, similar to how Apple visionOS connects with Macs, though it currently supports only Meta Quest 3 and 3S models, with compatibility for Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro still pending. The app can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

The connection is fast and wireless, converting Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets into efficient productivity tools with desktop-like features. Despite discontinuing Windows Mixed Reality support, Microsoft ensures Windows desktop accessibility through other VR platforms like Meta Quest.

Mixed Reality Link facilitates a seamless integration between Windows 11 PCs and Meta Quest 3/3s headsets, transforming the headset into a private, high-quality, multi-monitor workstation. This software extends the Windows 11 experience by enabling users to access and manage multiple virtual monitors directly through their headset, enhancing productivity and immersion.

As long as it's better than Virtual Desktop, then this will be a game changer. Will update my findings later

Update: it is not a game changer. It only copies the monitor in front of you. You cannot add extra screens, or at least I haven't figured out how to do that yet. I can still have up to 3 screens with Virtual desktop instead.
