Microsoft launches GitHub Copilot for Azure to manage your Azure infra directly in VS Code

Chris Harris, Product Manager for Visual Studio Code, has announced the preview release of GitHub Copilot for Azure, an integration designed to streamline cloud management within the VS Code environment. This new tool works seamlessly with GitHub Copilot Chat, allowing developers to manage Azure infrastructure and services without leaving their IDE. By simply prompting @azure in the Chat view, users can perform tasks such as setting up services and deploying applications directly from their editor.

The extension is available for installation from the Visual Studio Marketplace and provides functionalities like querying Azure OpenAI models, Azure AI Search, and obtaining pricing information for services like Azure SQL. GitHub Copilot for Azure aims to simplify application deployment by offering guidance on resource setup and automated deployments. It also assists in diagnosing and troubleshooting application performance and resource issues, providing quick insights and facilitating effective resource management.
